What is the United Nations Educational,
Scientific, and Cultural Organization's (UNESCO's) World Heritage List, and
why is it important in preserving the
natural and cultural heritage of all of
humanity?
This unit introduces readers to the significance of UNESCO's
'Heritage Sites" -- places that are wonders of nature,
wonders of culture or both. The reading passage mentions such sites as the
Great Wall of China, the Pyramids of Egypt, Mont Saint-Michel in France
and Yosemite National Park in the United States. The passage describes how
the international community's commitment to protecting and preserving such wondrous sites.
The unit contains exercises in reading
comprehension, listening. In addition, the unit offers
practice writing task on providing a short report update. As always,
